Exploring system innovation
When we started on our journey to facilitate innovation at system level in 2017, the name "system innovation" hardly existed. Googling the term led almost exclusively to results about IT systems. Only a few pioneers had started to venture out and explore the concept.
Now, eight years later, system innovation has landed as an idea within many organizations working on social change and economic transformation, but exactly how to implement it still appears rather opaque. Many organizations start by mapping the system - but what comes next?
Over the years, we have experimented with many methods along the innovation journey, from understanding the system to designing new ways of collaborating, implementing change, evaluating the process and learning from the experience. We are still at the beginning of this journey, and there is much more to discover.
We are now taking a pause to document our experience and insights in system innovation so far in the form of a book. Over the course of this process, we will:
Reflect on our insights and co-create good practices with our collaborators and other practitioners to chart the journey ahead;
Share what we have learned and make it available to other practitioners, empowering them to actively shape social transformation;
Encourage those who are responsible for or who have the power to drive systemic change - leaders in public administration, foundations, NGOs or influential companies - with concrete examples and tools.
We hope that you will be part of the journey! We would love for you to actively contribute to the book through reading the chapters-in-progress as we publish them and giving us feedback in the form of comments, emails and contributions in events and workshops over the course of this process.
